Disability Support Services provides support to adult students with disabilities so they can successfully transition to, participate in, and complete their post-secondary education at NOCE.
DSS provides additional support that can help students achieve their academic goals at our sister colleges, Cypress College and Fullerton College. DSS assistance and programs help students achieve their goals related to higher education, competitiveness, integrated employment, and living more independently.
DSS Programs and Services
1. Accommodations and Alternate Media→
Students can access a variety of accommodations, assistive technologies and materials in alternate formats to support academic success.
2. Disability Support Services (DSS) Classes→
These noncredit college classes help students with mild intellectual disabilities (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) gain independence in school, work, and the community.
3. Academics Relationships Independence Self-advocacy Emotional-health (ARISE)→
ARISE is an educational support and wellness hub. Staff focus on helping students develop organizational, academic and social skills, and providing students with support for their mental health needs. The hub has been designed to provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but many students benefit from the services provided by ARISE.
4. Work Independence Self Advocacy Education (WISE)→
WISE curriculum is similar to the DSS classes and provides a 1:4 staff to student ratio for those who need additional instructional support.
5. Workability III (WAIII)→
WAIII helps students to prepare for, obtain, and maintain competitive integrated employment.
6. College to Career (C2C)→
C2C provides support services that help students with ID succeed in noncredit and credit classes leading to an inclusive college experience. C2C helps students obtain employment upon completion of their educational goals.
7. Independent Vocational and Educational Supports (IVES)→
Students receive educational coaching to support their inclusive post-secondary educational goals and increase their ability to get jobs in competitive industries.
8. Mobility Training Program→
Students learn the skills needed to independently use the public transportation system.
9. Counseling→
Students in the DSS Program receive specialized academic counseling, assessment, and registration assistance.
About the DSS Program
NOCE’s DSS Program is the noncredit provider for the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD). This team helps students with verified disabilities obtain educational accommodations and support services. DSS is committed to supporting students in pursuing their inclusive educational and vocational goals. DSS programs are designed in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Note: Students may be eligible for educational coaching services to support them with taking inclusive classes at Cypress College and Fullerton College.
